Independent Study, 6x8", 2007
My independent study focused on the exploitation of the feminine in our society's media. I approached the subject matter using digital collage and illustration. Inspiration was drawn from fashion advertising, the work of Ryan McGinness, the history of female depiction, victorian onamental decor and pornography. The eyelashes are exaggerated to ostentatious proportions to obstruct the collaged-woman's view. This is a metaphor for how media staturation has blinded and polluted our vision of true beauty.
